Philip D. Lerner is a 1977 graduate of the Villanova University School of Law. Following graduation, he served as an Assistant District Attorney in Kings County for 5 years. During that time, he was quickly elevated to a trial assistant in the Homicide Bureau; after a tenure in the office’s Appeals Bureau, during which time he argued multiple matters in the Appellate Division, New York State Court of Appeals, and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. He thereafter served as Compliance Counsel at the New York Mercantile Exchange.
For the past 35 years, he has been consistently involved in handling the defense of complex civil litigation matters with multi-dollar exposure from inception to trial. He joined Aaronson, Rappaport, Feinstein & Deutsch, as a senior partner in 1994. Phil is recognized as one of the City’s most experienced and successful lawyers in defense of complex medical malpractice lawsuits. He has served on the firm’s Executive Committee for the past 5 years.
Mr. Lerner has lectured to doctors at grand rounds at various hospitals around the Metropolitan area on issues of patient care and malpractice litigation. He is also a frequent lecturer at various Bar Associations on defense litigation techniques.
Mr. Lerner has consistently been listed among New York City Super Lawyers, and the Top Lawyers in the metropolitan area.
He is admitted to practice in all New York State Courts, as well as the Eastern and Southern Districts.
Mr. Lerner is heavily involved in the firm’s in-house continuing legal education lectures.
He is very active in his community from arranging basketball games for lawyers and neighbors, and in 2011 was recognized as Congregation B’nai Avraham’s Man of the Year, for which he received a Congressional Proclamation.
